Case Study: COSCO Container Lines Charts Course for Centralized, Automated Sales with GoldMine

This season, many of us are shopping for deals at the major American retailer COSTCO. Behind the retailer is international shipping giant COSCO (China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company), the national flag carrier of the People's Republic of China, which. The company’s U.S. and Canadian operation, COSCON Americas, implemented GoldMine and iGoldMine to help the North American sales team keep COSCO carriers filled with cargo. With GoldMine, each salesperson saves at least two hours per week in compiling reports.

Free Up Licenses When Not in Use

Encourage all users to log out of GoldMine when they are done with sessions in order to free up licenses for others.

The Flags.bin file in GoldMine keeps track of how many people are logged in at one time. This file can become mis-populated with data, and therefore not allow the full number of licenses to log in at one time.

To prevent this, encourage all users to log out of GoldMine by going to File > Exit, rather than using the X button. Using File > Exit will ensure that the user’s session is completed and the Flags file makes the license available for other users.

List Existing Data in GoldMine Professional
A new F2 lookup setup option in GMPE lets you list existing data.

Checking the “List existing data” box will load all data entered in that field to the F2 lookup list. Note: Selecting this option grays out the “Allow adding,” “Allow editing,” and “Allow deleting” options.

This feature is not currently available in GMCE 7.04 or GMCE 7.5.






Dock/Pin the Process Monitor
At times, the process monitor pops up in the middle of the GMPE window. The easiest resolution: dock the process monitor window and the PIN it closed. To dock your process monitor, simply drag the window to any side of your GoldMine workspace. Once docked, the user can click on the push-pin icon to ‘pin’ the process monitor closed. Once pinned, the process monitor will only open when you hover your mouse over the pinned process monitor title bar at the edge of the screen.

Troubleshooting Automated Processes

Here’s a tip on determining which track is failing in Automated Processes. (This tip is also valid in GoldMine Premium Edition.)

Create a GM.ini entry for Automated Processes that will outline each step in every track. To do this, open the username.ini for the person you are logged in as and insert the following section:

[GoldMine]
APDebugLog=1

This will set the process monitor to report on each individual section of an Automated Process.

An example of The Process Monitor after this feature is enabled:

Change in E-mail Attachments with GoldMine Premium Edition 8.02

With GoldMine Premium Edition 8.02, e-mail attachments are now posted at the bottom of the e-mail edit window. Now, e-mails better accommodate files with long names.
